Japanese Association for Northern European Studies (JANES) was founded in 2002. JANES is an interdisciplinary academic society with about 170 members. Our aim is to promote studies of all disciplines of Northern Europe and to disseminate information that links researchers.

JANES continues to:
- hold an academic conference once a year,
- publish an academic journal once a year,
- send a newsletter to members,
- provide forums for presenting research results and exchange of ideas.
